In 1497, Mykola Swinka was the owner of the castle in Pomorzany. At the end of the 15th century, the estate passed into the hands of Zygmunt Sienieński and remained in his family until 1619-1620, when it was purchased by Jakub Sobieski, father of the future king of Poland. During the second Turks' expedition against Lviv in 1675, the castle garrison, lacking sufficient forces to defend itself, abandoned the fortress. Left to itself, the castle was completely devastated, but was soon rebuilt by its then owner, King Jan III Sobieski. In 1684, the fortress was again destroyed by the Tatars. Documents and memoirs indicate that Pomorzany Castle was one of Jan Sobieski's favourite places of residence. After his death, the castle passed from hand to hand, gradually falling into ruin. From 1740 it belonged to the Radziwill family, but was severely damaged by a fire in 1771, after which part of the castle was demolished. In 1789, the estate passed to the Pruszyński family, who rebuilt it. In 1876, the castle became the property of Roman Potocki, and his son Jerzy took care of the castle until 1939, repairing it after the damage of World War I. Today, the castle has once again fallen into disrepair.
