Biography:

Zygmunt Majerski (1909-1979), born in Przemyśl, son of Stanisław Majerski, architect and professor at the Silesian University of Technology. From 1927 to 1935 he studied at the Lviv Polytechnic. He fought in the September campaign, was captured and imprisoned in Oflag VII A Murnau. From 1945 to 1947, he stayed in Italy, where he designed the Polish War Cemetery in Bologna in 1946. He returned to Poland in June 1947. After his return, he was involved in designing, among others, the Youth Palace in Katowice (1949-1951), the Music and Dance House in Zabrze (1954-1959) and the Dramatic Theatre in Opole (1965). He was the first dean of the Faculty of Architecture at the Silesian University of Technology and co-founder of the Silesian school of architecture.
