Tomb of the Bohomlce and d'Eichtal families

Barrel vaulted chapel with a gable roof, possibly originally topped with a cross on the front, high entrance topped with an arch surrounded by a relief ornament with floral motifs (e.g. poppies). The high entrance is closed with an arch with relief ornaments with floral motifs (including poppies), closed at ¾ height with an iron door topped with a grating with motifs of the nobleman's crown (coat of arms), inside on the front wall a cross; the external side walls are divided by 4 flaming torches connected at the top with garlands, on the torches crossed sashes, rosettes and acanthus leaves (?).

Above the entrance to the chapel, on an arch, is an inscription (1), separated by a plastic coat of arms.

Inside, on the left wall, there is a plaque with six inscriptions arranged in two rows and three columns:

  • In the second column: on the upper plaque (4), on the lower plaque (5),
  • In the third column: on the upper plaque (6), on the lower plaque (7).

On the central wall of the chapel, below the isosceles cross, is a painted inscription (8). Below, on a plaque in a faceted panel, is another (9). On the floor, leaning against the central wall, stands a plaque with an inscription (10).

On the right wall of the chapel, in two rows and three columns, further plaques with inscriptions are arranged:

  • In the first column: on the upper plaque (11), on the lower plaque (12),
  • In the second column: on the upper plaque (13), on the lower plaque (14),

Coat of arms: in the field of the shield (colours unmarked) two rocky hills, above which one six-rayed star each, on the shield a crown with 7 pearls above it a helmet with labrys and a nobleman's crown; (Bavarian ennoblement with the granting of the title of baron, 1814).

One of the two graves of the d'Eichtal family in the cemetery contains the ashes of two Bohomolcien sisters and their mother. The sisters' father, Michal Bohomolec, was buried in Latvia, near the family estate. Michal was a colonel in the Russian army and participated in the November Uprising on the Russian side. After the uprising he ran a business in St Petersburg, working with the French entrepreneur Camille Depret. The family managed a wine depot there until the revolution. Adele, daughter of Michal Bohomoltz, was the wife of Michal Bohomoltz, father of Maria and Adela, and of Philippe Alexander Bohomoltz, buried in the Montmorency cemetery (husband of Charlotte Sienkiewicz). The husband of the two Bohomolècien sisters was Abraham Eugène, Baron d'Eichtal, an eminent French economist, sociologist and poet, who served as director of l'École libre des sciences politiques. The d'Eichtal family received Bavarian ennoblement in 1814, as commemorated by the coat of arms appearing on the tombstone. The daughter of Adela and Eugène, Baron d'Eichtal, she married Paul Alfass, a well-known art historian and director of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris. Representatives of several generations of the Baron d'Eichtal family and their loved ones are buried in the tomb.

The chapel is mentioned by: M. A. Henry, 'Le Père Lachaise historique, monumental et biographique', 1852, p. 6 but with the information that there is no inscription on it.

Location: div. 4, sec. 2, row 1 from av. Principale (from div. 1), gr. 1 from av. du Puits (from div. 3)
