The publication accompanies the exhibition 'Nekropolia na Bajkowa Góra. Polish Traces at the Bajkowa Cemetery in Kiev", which is devoted to the history of the necropolis, little known in Poland, photographed by Norbert Piwowarczyk.

The Bajkowa Cemetery is one of the non-obvious Polish traces outside our country. It was established in 1834 and its name has nothing to do with fairy tales, but derives from the name of the Russian general Sergei Bajkov.

The necropolis has preserved many chapels designed by famous Kiev architects, including Vladislav Horodetsky. Among those buried here are the bookseller and publisher Leon Idzikowski, the lawyer Leonard Jankowski, the painter Wilhelm Kotarbiński, the photographer Vladimir Vysotsky, the collector Jozef Choynowski and the President of Kyiv Jozef Zawadzki.
