Graves of Poles from World War II in Pfaffenwald forest cemetery

The Pfaffenwald forest cemetery in Bad Hersfeld (Hesse) contains the graves of 453 war victims - female and forced labourers, their children and prisoners of war - primarily from the Soviet Union and Poland. Here rest 46 Polish citizens, among others. Forced labourers and 23 prisoners of war who died in Stalag IXA Ziegenhain and were exhumed from the cemetery in Ziegenhain in the post-war period.
In 2020-2021, the Polish-German Reconciliation Foundation, as part of a task supported by the Ministerial Programme "Sites of National Remembrance Abroad", compiled data on the buried persons and made it available, together with a description of the cemetery, on the website of the project "Polish memorials and war graves in Germany": https://polskiegroby.pl/cmentarz.php?jez=pl&cmentarzok=611&miejsceok=716&landok=8.
