Turku Castle

Turku Castle (Swedish: Åbo), the oldest city in Finland, has a rich history, strongly linked to the figure of Catherine Jagiellon. The youngest daughter of King Sigismund I the Old of Poland and Bona Sforza, in 1562 she married John III Vasa, then Prince of Finland and future King of Sweden. Straight from Vilnius, where the ceremony took place, they went to Jan's residence - the castle in Turku. With the arrival of Catherine Jagiellon and her court, Renaissance culture emerged in Finland. An interesting and extensive exhibition is devoted to the figure of the Swedish queen, which can be seen in the castle museum.
