MiG-21 aircraft at the Volandia Museum in Somma Lombardo

The Volandia Museum is located just outside the large Milan Malpensa international airport, a few dozen kilometres from the Lombard metropolis. It occupies the site of the former Caproni aviation plant. Amongst the countless aviation relics on display, you can also see the following relic of post-war Polish weaponry: a Soviet-made MiG-21 aircraft belonging for years to an aviation unit in Poznań. Manufactured in the USSR, it was bought by Poland in 1968 and served in the Polish Air Force until 1996. After being withdrawn from service, it was bought by an Italian entrepreneur who wanted to place it at the gate of his company. Due to some difficulties - they are not explained on the information board - this use did not succeed, and the aircraft eventually ended up in the Volandia museum.
