The spectacle took place during the Roman Carnival on 25 February 1634 in Piazza Navona. The ceremony was organised by Cardinal Antonio Barberini. Polish royal Alexander Charles Vasa (1614-1634) was summoned to Poland a few days before the event, so he did not attend. However, the lavish spectacle in his honour took place anyway. The event was immortalised in many engravings and paintings. One of them is in the Museum of Rome.
