Graves of the victims of the reprisal action by the Home Army

Dubinki | Lithuania
lit. Dubingiai
On 20.06.1944, a punitive Lithuanian expedition of the so-called Shaulis shot about 100 people from among the Polish civilian population in Glinciszki. This was a punishment for the requisitioning of food in the Glinciszki estate by the Home Army. In response to this massacre, the 5th brigade of the Home Army, Zygmunt Szendzielarz 'Łupaszka', retaliated against the Lithuanian village of Dubinki, where the Šaulis families lived. Dubinki was prepared for self-defence, so the reprisal action was partly in the nature of an armed struggle rather than a crime against civilians. Among the 27 victims, in addition to Lithuanian policemen, were women and children, among them a Polish woman, Anna Gorska, with her son.
. The retaliatory action in Dubinki was an isolated event in the activities of the Polish underground in the Vilnius region and was strongly condemned by the AK command as an act of arbitrariness and insubordination.
. The victims of this action were buried in the local cemetery, on the edge of the necropolis. People of Lithuanian nationality were buried in a plot consisting of 4 graves, and in the grave standing next to them - Anna Górska with her son. On 23.06.1990 a monument, erected by the Lithuanian society, was unveiled in the victims' quarters. In 1999, a monument was erected outside the cemetery to commemorate the victims.
