The Adam Mickiewicz monument in Karlovy Vary, created by Bretislav Werner, was made in 1947 and unveiled the following year. It is located in the park near the historic Richmond Park spa hotel. Werner's monument replaced an older one (dating from 1897), which had been destroyed. The monument dedicated to the poet was erected to commemorate his stay in Karlovy Vary in 1829. There he was to meet Roman Soltyk, whose person was a source of inspiration in the creation of the Count's character in "Pan Tadeusz". The monument is a bronze bust, placed on a pedestal with a two-tier granite plinth. On the front of the pedestal is a granite bas-relief depicting a harp, a feather and a bouquet. The plinth bears inscriptions commemorating the poet. The monument is on the Central List of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic and is protected by law.
