Lviv has lived to see many historical studies and detailed dissertations on some of the city's municipal institutions. This time, readers are presented with the first such comprehensive attempt to put in order the history of Lviv's tramways, which have become a permanent part of the city's landscape.

The first trams in Lviv were launched on 5 May 1880 by the Società Triestina Tramway Company of Trieste and were horse-drawn trams. Eight years later there were plans to build a network of steam trams, but these were abandoned in favour of electric trams. Their traffic was finally inaugurated on 31 May 1894, a few days before the opening ceremony of the General National Exhibition.

The publication contains a rich description of various aspects of Lviv tramway operators - from organisational matters, through operational, commercial and technical issues, to personnel matters. The authors showed the special place of Lviv trams not only in the everyday life of the city's inhabitants, but also on the pages of literary works. The book contains anecdotes, sentimental memories and numerous illustrations and quotations from unique sources that capture the atmosphere of Lviv in the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th century.
