Biography:

Jan Pohoski (1889-1940), born in Dubna, son of Maciej August and Stefania née Wydżga. He graduated from the Mechanical and Technical School of H. Wawelberg and S. Rotwand in Warsaw. He later studied architecture at the Technical College in Ghent. During the First World War he took part in the Legion's deed. Around 1915, he joined the Polish People's Party "Wyzwolenie". From 1919, he worked in the construction department of the Capital City Board. In 1934, he became Deputy Mayor of Warsaw. After the outbreak of WWII, he took part in the defence of the capital. In 1940, he was arrested by the Gestapo and imprisoned at the Pawiak prison. He was murdered in Palmiry in June of that year.
