In the old cemetery in Oryny, in the very corner of the necropolis, there is a plot of 14 Polish and 1 Lithuanian soldiers who died or died in 1919-1920. 4 policemen who died in 1923 are also buried here. Originally, these graves were located at St Michael the Archangel Church, behind the presbytery. A monument-column in honour of those buried was erected in 1931. The graves survived the Second World War, only in September 1939. The Soviets destroyed the eagle crowning the column. On 25.09.1995, on the initiative of Lithuanians, the remains of the soldiers were exhumed and moved to the present site. During the exhumation 15 bodies were found (including that of a Lithuanian soldier), the bodies of police officers (Chodźko Wasyl, Czarnecki Jan, Dziedzic Wojciech, Giżycki Stanisław) were not found - perhaps these were symbolic burials; therefore a handful of earth from the exhumed grave was poured into 4 coffins each. The column-monument from the old quarters was also to be moved to the cemetery, and it was planned to place it by the cemetery alley (due to the scarcity of space allocated for the soldiers' quarters), but this work was not carried out immediately after the transfer of the quarters. The matter dragged on for many years until it culminated in the destruction of the column standing in front of the church. After the intervention of the Polish side, the Lithuanian authorities announced that the column would be reconstructed, but failed to fulfil this promise. In 2015, the quarters were renovated with funds from the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Remembrance.
