Cemetery in Molčadz

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography). According to Anna Lewkowska, Jacek Lewkowski and Wojciech Walczak, the Catholic cemetery was established near the centre of Molčadia. It has a square plan, 0.4 ha in area and is surrounded by a wooden fence. It was established in the first half of the 19th century. The oldest gravestone, from 1848, commemorates Paweł Bylczyński. Its inscription reads: "TUĄ ZŁOŻONE ZWŁOKI / S. P. / PAWEŁ SON OF JAN / BYLCZYŃSKI / B. REGENT DEPAR. GUBER. / GRODZIEŃSKIEY UM. MIŃSK / Gii NOWOGRODZKIE Ptu / W MAJESTY KOZŁOWCZACH / 1848 R. MAY 22 DAY / PRZEŚYWSZY LAT 70". Noteworthy is the tombstone of Jozef Braun (d. 1853), whose slab was made in the engraving workshop of Jozef Kozlowski in Vilnius. Quoting the researchers cited above, in the cemetery "a dozen or so tombstones from the 2nd half of the 19th century have survived, but today burials from the 1st half of the 20th century predominate".
