Mausoleum of the January Uprising insurgents in Stara Rossa cemetery

A mausoleum of the January insurgents has been arranged in the historic chapel in the Stara Rossa cemetery. On 22.11.2019, the remains exhumed from Castle Hill and other places in Vilnius were deposited here. Together with the uprising leaders Zygmunt Sierakowski and Konstanty Kalinowski, also resting here were: Bolesław Kołyszko, Rev. Rajmund Ziemacki, Julian Leśniewski, Albert Laskowicz, Józef Jabłoński, Aleksander and Józef Rewkowski, Karol Sipowicz, Jan Bieńkowski, Jan Marczewski, Edward Czapliński, Mieczysław Dormanowski, Ignacy Zdanowicz, Tytus Dalewski, Henryk Makowiecki, Władysław Nikolai, Kazimierz Syczuk and Jakub Czechan. The remains of the insurgents lie in niches in the main part of the chapel, behind glass. The interior of this part has been renovated, while the other, smaller part has remained in its current state. The plaques with the names of the buried were made by the Vilnius city government, which was responsible for the renovation of the chapel.
