Mela Muter, born Maria Melania Mutermilch, née Klingsland (1876-1967), born in Warsaw, daughter of Fabian Klingsland and Zuzanna, née Feigenblatt, painter and representative of modernism. From childhood, she learned to play instruments. She also attended, among other places, Milosz Kotarbiński's Drawing and Painting School for Women in Warsaw. She came from a Jewish family, raised in the Mosaic faith, but converted to Catholicism in 1923. She lived in Paris from 1901 and took French citizenship in 1927. During the war, she gave private lessons in painting and art history in the south of France. In the last years of her life she was supported by Bolesław Nawrocki junior and his wife Lina.
