Biography:

Jan Bohdan Chmielewski (1927-2014), born in Grodno. In 1949, he settled in Suwałki and in 1950 moved to Warsaw, where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts from 1950 to 1955. After graduating, he worked there as an assistant, associate professor, then professor and dean of the Faculty of Sculpture. Author of monuments, medals, coins and commemorative plaques, including monuments to Nicolaus Copernicus in Brazil and the USA, a monument to Polish Soldiers in Narvik and a monument to Janusz Korczak in Warsaw.
