Grave (in the cemetery) of an unknown Polish soldier from the Home Army

At the castle in Miedniki from 15 July 1944. The Soviets held arrested soldiers of the Home Army. The prisoners were kept in very poor conditions in the open air, and torture was used against them. It was not until many years later that the memory of the Poles held in the camp was honoured. On the initiative of the branch of the Union of Poles in Lithuania and the 'September 39' branch founded by Aleksander Olenkowicz, a symbolic grave of the unknown soldier was erected in the local cemetery in one of the main avenues. A wooden cross was placed on the grave, and a large red and white plaque with the inscription: "Ś. P. Unknown Polish Soldier / Shot near Medniki by the NKVD during disarmament in July 1944".
