Polish politician, Prime Minister, lieutenant colonel of infantry in the Polish Army. Born in Ponedele, Lithuania. During his studies, he was active in the structures of the Union of Active Struggle, of which he was a co-founder. From 1915, he commanded sabotage units in the Polish Military Organisation as a second lieutenant. From 1918, he served in the ranks of the Polish Army, where he became captain and then major. In 1922, he joined the PSL "Wyzwolenie", where his political career began. In 1934, he became Minister of the Interior, and after the death of Józef Piłsudski in 1935, he was appointed Prime Minister.
