Biography:

Karol Otto Kniaziewicz (1762-1842), born in Asites. He was educated at the Knights' School and the School of Artillery. He took part in the Polish-Russian War of 1792. He fought in many battles, including alongside Napoleon. In 1794 he was taken prisoner by the Russians. After being pardoned by the Tsar, he went to Italy. There he joined the Polish Legions. In 1812 he joined the army of the Duchy of Warsaw. At the outbreak of the November Uprising, he was in exile in France and remained there. There he was an animator of scientific life.
