Biography:

Andrzej Czyżowski (1919-2003), born in Nowy Sącz, died in London, Polish émigré journalist, employee of the Polish Broadcasting of Radio Free Europe (1966-1985), editor-in-chief of the London-based "Polish Daily" (1986-1992). In September 1939, he fought in the defence of Warsaw. In autumn 1939, he made his way to France. He served in the Polish Army and in the 5th Małopolski Regiment of Foot Riflemen. After the French campaign, he was interned in Switzerland. He published in the journal Pamiętnik Literacko-Naukowy. At the end of the Second World War, he escaped from internment. He then fought in the 2nd Polish Corps. After the war he worked for the "Soldier's Gazette" published in Bari. From 1946 he settled in the UK and ran a private enterprise. From 1966 he worked with the Polish Radio Free Europe. He retired in 1985. From March 1986 he served as Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Information.
