Augustyn Gruszka (1896-1976), born in Werynia, died in New York, colonel intendant with higher military studies of the Polish Army, minister of treasury in the government-in-exile. He was a member of the Riflemen's Association. He served in the Polish Legions (he was among the legionnaires interned and later indicted in the so-called Marmarosz-Siget trial) and the Polish Army. He served in Department VII of the Intendant of the Ministry of Military Affairs (until 1923). He was verified in the rank of major (1919). He worked at the Higher School of War (1924-1925) and in his later years taught there. He also studied at the École Supérieure de Ľintendance in Paris. In the following years he worked with the Ministry of Military Affairs. In 1935, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. From June 1938 to September 1939, he was chief of the intendant's office in the District Command of Corps No. VI in Lwów. He took part in the September campaign. On 18 September 1939, he made his way to Hungary, then to France (where he became a member of the Rules and Regulations Commission of the Ministry of Military Affairs), and to Great Britain (1940), where he was head of the Intendant's Department of the Polish Air Force Inspectorate until the end of the Second World War. In 1943, he was promoted to colonel. After the Second World War, he settled in the USA. He served as Minister of the Treasury (1965-1970). In 1965 he was promoted to brigadier general in the corps of generals. He was a member of the Fourth Council of the Republic of Poland (1968-1970).
