Maciej Szańkowski (1938), born in Wola Libertowska. He studied at the State Secondary School of Fine Arts in Zakopane. One of his teachers was Antoni Kenar. Then he studied at the Faculty of Sculpture of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under Jerzy Jarnuszkiewicz. He has repeatedly taken part in exhibitions and symposia abroad, including in Austria, Switzerland and Japan. He has received numerous awards. Since 1996, he has been a full professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.
