Biography:

Józef Unierzyski (1863-1948), painter. He began his artistic studies at the Warsaw Drawing School of Wojciech Gerson and Aleksander Kamiński. He continued his studies in Munich and in Italy (at the "Scuola libera" at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome), thanks to a scholarship from the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts, which he received in 1883. In 1884-1889, he studied at the School of Fine Arts in Krakow under Jan Matejko, whose son-in-law he became. From 1891 he was a professor of drawing at the School of Fine Arts in Kraków.
