Biography:

Edward Wittig (1879-1941), born in Warsaw. He received his artistic education in Vienna, then in Paris at the State Higher School of Fine Arts. From 1914 to 1920 he was a professor at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts and the Warsaw University of Technology. In 1915, he wrote 'A Reading on Sculpture', in which he included his views on what shape contemporary sculpture should take. The artist's work was highly regarded, especially in the interwar period. He designed the first five-zloty coin in the Second Republic, which was minted for four years from 1928. He was involved in artistic life and was a member of the 'Rhythm' group, among others. During his life he produced numerous sculptures, including monumental ones.
