Vladimir C. Hegel (1838 -1918), French sculptor and teacher of Polish-German origin. He was born in 1838 in Warsaw. He settled in Bucharest in 1855, becoming an influential figure in Romanian art of the period 1890-1905. He created a number of monuments there, including Miron Costin of Jass, Vasili Alecsandri of Jass, CA Rosetti and the Bucharest Firemen. He was a highly regarded teacher, holding the position of Professor of Sculpture at the Bucharest School of Arts and Crafts, the Bucharest School of Fine Arts, the Normal School of Institutes and the Ateneum School of Painting.
