Biography:

Jacek Stryjeński (1922-1961) was a Swiss painter and interior decorator of Polish origin. Graduated in graphic arts from the Warsaw School of Fine Arts (1937-1939), Kunstgewerbeschule in Zurich (1942) and the Academy of Fine Arts in Geneva (1943). He fought in the 2nd Infantry Rifle Division during the Second World War, as a result of which he was interned in Switzerland from 1940 to 1945. After the war, he remained there permanently. In 1948, he married the painter and decorator Danuta Burdecka (1927-2013). Stryjeński is the author of numerous mosaics and frescoes in Swiss and French churches, including the Church of St Francis in Geneva, as well as in secular buildings. He collaborated with the Geneva Marionette Theatre and the Grand Theatre there, designing an aluminium ceiling and a steel curtain for the latter.
