Biography:

Tadeusz Popiel (1863-1913), born in Szczucin. He studied painting at the School of Fine Arts in Krakow. His teacher was, among others, Jan Matejko. After graduating from the Kraków academy, he went to Vienna and Munich to study. He travelled all over Europe. He carried out commissions in various countries, including Italy and Ukraine. He was one of the founders of the Young Art in Lviv and the Artists' Association in Poznań. His paintings dealt with religious and historical themes.
