Biography:

Julian Marian Szeliga Markowski (1846-1903), Polish sculptor active in Lviv. Son of the sculptor Jan Schimser. He participated in the November Uprising, after which he made his way to Lwów. There he met Artur Grottger, thanks to whom he decided to focus on sculpture. He studied with Paris Filippi and with the Viennese masters. In 1870, he returned to Lviv and established a woodcarving workshop, making mainly tomb monuments, but also decorative sculpture and public statues. He created in the historicist style. He died of pneumonia.
