Biography:

Marek Leykam (1908-1983), born in Warsaw, son of Jan Piotr Lewiński and Elżbieta née Milewska. He then took an evening course at the Municipal School of Decorative Arts and Painting at Teatralny Square and attended the Stefan Batory Gymnasium. He then studied at the School of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In 1939 he took part in the defensive war of Poland. In 1940 he found himself in Switzerland, where he defended his doctoral thesis at the Zurich University of Technology on liturgical art. In 1943, he was the illustrator of a book published in Switzerland on the artistic and literary work of the soldiers of the Infantry Rifle Division entitled. "At a Standstill". He created many buildings that are recognisable today, such as the Okrąglak Department Store in Poznań, the Skyscraper at 2b Jerzego Waszyngtona Avenue in Warsaw and the "Żyletkowiec" at 82 Marszałkowska Street in Warsaw.
