Biography:

Jan Waszkiewicz (1797-1859), born in Vilnius. In this city he studied at the Imperial University. He obtained his master's degree there. He then taught history and law at a secondary school. In 1825 he became an associate professor at the Vilnius university. He taught political economy there. After the November Uprising, the university was closed and Jan Waszkiewicz began working as a councillor of the economic department of the Medical and Surgical Academy. From 1835 he was a censor of books published in Vilnius. His last job was as director of the school of rabbis in Vilnius.
