Biography:

Jerzy Giedroyc (1906-2000), born in Minsk, son of Ignacy Giedroyc and Franciszka Giedroyć née Starzycka. From 1919, he lived in Warsaw. In 1924, he graduated from the Jan Zamoyski Gymnasium there. In 1924-1929, he studied law, and in 1930-1931, history. Both majored in history at Warsaw University. He belonged to the Patria academic corporation. From 1926, he was one of the leaders of Myśli Mocarstwowa. From 1930, he edited the weekly magazine Academic Day. He belonged to the Anders Army, where he met, among others, Józef Czapski. He was a co-founder of the Literary Institute. Within its framework, he published the monthly Kultura and Zeszyty Historyczne. In 1950, he took part in the Congress of Free Culture. Information about him was subject to censorship in the People's Republic of Poland.
