Biography:

Józef Sulkowski (1773-1798), born in Rydzyna. He was brought up by his uncle August Sulkowski. He began his career in 1783. He took part in the Polish-Russian war of 1792. He fought in the Kościuszko Uprising. During the Italian campaign, he attracted the attention of Napoleon, who appointed him his adjutant. In 1798, he went with the French leader on an expedition to Egypt. He took part in several battles. He died returning from a reconnaissance, attacked by partisans. Napoleon commemorated him by naming one of the fronts after him.
