Małgorzata Chodakowska's sculpture 'Ballet girl' in Dresden

Małgorzata Chodakowska (born 1965 in Łódź), sculptor. In 1985, she began her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, which she continued at the Academy of Fine Arts (Akademie der Bildenden Künste) in Vienna from 1988. Since 1991, she has lived permanently in Dresden (Oberpoyritz district), where - in addition to working in her own atelier - she runs a vineyard together with her husband Klaus Zimmerling. He works mainly in bronze and wood. In addition to Germany (e.g. Berlin, Chemnitz, Dresden, Freiberg, Leipzig, Pirna, Stuttgart) she has had a number of solo exhibitions in: Austria, Denmark, Japan and Poland. She has been awarded prizes and distinctions for her sculptural realisations.

M. Chodakowska's work continues to be one of the most important Polish accents in contemporary Saxon culture. Her full-figure sculptures have become a permanent part of the state's public space. They can be encountered in original places, not necessarily associated with the display and promotion of contemporary art. One such example is the sculpture-fountain Ballerina, where one can find inspiration in the famous work The Fourteen-Year-Old Dancer by Edgar Degas.

Technical data: bronze; height approx. 230 cm.
