Biography:

Józef Pius Dziekoński (1844-1927), born in Warsaw, was an architect. Between 1866 and 1871 he studied at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in St Petersburg. After graduating from the school, he obtained the degree of architect of artist class III. He specialised mainly in sacred architecture and was a precursor of the so-called Vistula-Baltic style. He was a co-founder of the Society for the Care of Monuments of the Past, and from 1893 he cooperated with the Commission for the Study of the History of Art in Poland. In the same year he became architect of the Warsaw diocese. In 1902 he received the title of academician. He was the first dean of the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology. His outstanding students included architects such as: Franciszek Lilpop, Hugo Kruder, Czesław Domaniewski, Józef Holewiński, Zdzisław Mączeński, Feliks Michalski, Aleksander Nieniewski and Ludwik Panczakiewicz.
