Graves of Poles from World War II

In the southern part of the Main Cemetery (Hauptfriedhof) in Ludwigshafen there is an extensive war cemetery, where most of the Polish citizens who died during World War II are buried. Of the 362 graves, 247 are those of Polish citizens. There are 195 known by name. They are prisoners of war and forced labourers deported to the Third Reich. At least 50 graves of Polish citizens were transferred here from other cemeteries in Mannheim and Ludwigshafen and from across the district. A total of 260 Poles whose names are known are buried in the cemetery.

In 2020-2021, the Polish-German Reconciliation Foundation, as part of a task subsidised by the Ministerial Programme "Sites of National Remembrance Abroad", compiled data on the buried persons and made it available, together with a description of the cemetery, on the website of the project "Polish Memorials and War Graves in Germany":
