In the Catholic cemetery on Calea Galați (opposite Cimitrul Sf. Maria) is the tombstone of Boleslaw Gebel, a non-commissioned officer who died in the Brăili municipal hospital on 13.11.1939. The tombstone was founded contemporaneously by his daughter, as indicated by the inscription. It is a tall obelisk on a two-stepped pedestal, made of white marble and topped with a cross. In the upper part, under the cross, there is a photograph and an inscription plaque with the text: THE LATE / BOLESŁAW GEBEL / POLISH OFFICER, AGED 36 / DIED IN BRAILA / 23 XI 1939 / TO HIS BELOVED FATHER - / DAUGHTER TERESA. The second plaque, placed on the pedestal, contains an analogous text in Romanian. In the central part of the tombstone - on the second step of the pedestal - is engraved an inscription concerning another person, which reads as follows: HIRSCHHAN ROSOLSA N. 1920 D. 1995. It is likely that this person was buried in the 1990s at the resting place of Bolesław Gebel. According to the documentation of the former Council for the Protection of Remembrance of Struggle and Martyrdom, also resting in this cemetery were: Antonina Maria Puziewicz (died 13.01.1940) and Józef Kowalski (died 7.01.1940). These graves have not been preserved.
