Information about the object:
The history of St. Michael's Church in Tywrovo dates back to 1742, when Jan Kaletanski founded a brick church to replace the 16th-century wooden one that was burnt down during the Khmelnytsky uprising. From the mid-18th century until 1833, the church was cared for by Dominicans brought from Vinnitsa. In 2018-2019, research and conservation work was carried out on the 19th-century image of Our Lady of Tyvrovsk.

The aim of the task was to secure and restore the damaged elements of the polychrome in the sanctuary of Our Lady of Tyvrovsk in Ukraine. Devastated during the communist era, the monastery and church complex was once one of the most important religious centres and also a centre of Polish culture in Podolia.

Completed works:
As part of the work carried out, the surfaces of the polychrome were cleaned of many years of dust and dirt, all rubbish and organic waste was removed, and the remains of previous renovations and nesting animals were eliminated. After testing the abrasiveness of the polychromy and assessing the actual state of preservation of the original mortars, structural reinforcement was carried out within all exposed plaster and brick thread. The surviving fragments of polychrome were then consolidated. This allowed further work to be carried out in areas of damage without exposing the murals and associated decoration to further damage.

Funding: Programme of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage "Protection of Cultural Heritage Abroad".
