Information about the object:
Cemeteries with Polish grave monuments.

Bernardine Cemetery founded in 1810.

Old Ross cemetery founded in 1769-1801, part of the Ross cemetery complex.

Completed works:
As part of the project, works were carried out on the tombstones of the Old Ross Cemetery and the Bernardine Cemetery in Vilnius.

It was assessed that it was urgent to carry out repair work due to the poor technical condition and the rapid deterioration of the objects. After a thorough analysis taking into account the artistic and historical value, the following were qualified for the project in the Old Ross Cemetery in Vilnius: the gravestone monument of Aniela Mickaniewska; the gravestone monument of firefighter Stanislaw Nowicki; the tomb of the Krassowski family (conservation and renovation works) and in the Bernardine Cemetery in Vilnius: monuments to Henryk Smiechowski, Lucjan Edward Uziębło, Karolina Łossowska, Konstancja Szadziewiczowa, Aleksander Idzi Byczyński, Bolesław Rusiecki, Daniel Jankowski (conservation and renovation works).

The works ensured the preservation of the authenticity of the tombstones, their inscriptions in Polish (the original language), as well as the protection from the process of destruction of the tombstones of Poles of merit to Polish science, culture or involved in patriotic activities. In the case of the Old Ross Cemetery, the project is another stage of coordinated activities gradually restoring its priceless tombstones. However, the effects of the project will be particularly noticeable at the Bernardine Cemetery, as the graves there were heavily degraded. An additional value of the project is to support social initiatives undertaken by Poles from Vilnius.

Funding: Programme of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage "Protection of Cultural Heritage Abroad".
