Information about the object:
The belfry is a valuable monument of brick and timber architecture, with the ground floor part built of stone supplemented with brick, and the two-storey chancel made of timber construction. The original shingles covering the roofs were later replaced with galvanised sheet metal, which corroded over the years.

The building was slowly deteriorating, but the roofing remained tight and complete in good condition. Unfortunately, a few months before the task was due to start, it had been completely torn off virtually the entire southern roof slope. Once torn off, the process of deterioration and destruction of the wooden structure accelerated alarmingly.

Completed works:
The project consisted of two parts. Part I involved salvage work to repair the roofing - restoring the roofing on the south slope and ad hoc repairs to the other slopes to protect the valuable timber structure from rainwater penetration and all the negative effects associated with this. Part II involved the preparation of research, conservation and construction documentation on the history, current state and how the repair and conservation work will be carried out in subsequent years.

The task included the following: emergency repairs of the roof covering; archive research concerning the object; salinity, damp and microbiological research; excavations with the assessment of the method and condition of the foundation of the object; geodetic and altimetric measurements; preparation of a photographic service; architectural and construction inventory; expert opinion on the technical condition of the object; stratigraphic research on the object; and a survey of the building. The project also included the preparation of conservation work programmes; a project for the restoration of the building, as well as estimates and budget estimates.

The result of Part I of the project is the preservation of the monument from deterioration. The realisation of the second part ended with the collection of complete information on the history and condition of the monument, which will enable proper planning and valuation of the renovation and conservation works in the following years.

Funding: Programme of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage "Protection of Cultural Heritage Abroad".
