Information about the object:
St. Nicholas Church in Kiev is a very valuable architectural monument, built by Poles in the early 20th century. Unfortunately, due to many years of neglect, it is in need of extensive renovation. On 3 September 2021, a fire broke out inside the church, caused by defects in the electrical system, which needs to be replaced. As a result of the fire, the organ burned down and the water used to extinguish the fire flooded the cellar rooms and damaged the electrical installations in the basement.

The competition for the construction of the church was won by 24-year-old Stanislav Volovsky, a student at the Institute of Civil Engineers, but the authorities decided that due to his lack of experience, the construction should be supervised by Wladyslaw Horodecki, a Polish architect recognised in Kiev. Construction of the church began in August 1899 and on completion it was consecrated on 19 December 1909 by the auxiliary bishop of Lutsk, Zhytomyr and Kamenets, Antoni Karas.

The church was used by the Catholic community of Kiev until 21 March 1938, when the Soviet authorities closed it, allocating the premises for economic purposes. In 1978, the USSR Council of Ministers transferred the building for musical purposes, and organ music concerts have been held there ever since. Efforts by Ukrainian Catholics to return the church for 29 years were unsuccessful, although mass has been held in the church every Sunday since 1991. In September 2020, the Ukrainian government announced its intention to build an edifice for the House of Organ Music and then to hand over St Nicholas' Church to the Roman Catholic parish.

Completed works:
The aim of the project is to secure the St. Nicholas Church building in Kiev by replacing the worn-out electrical installation in the church's cellar rooms and installing a fire protection system, which the church lacks.

Funding: Programme of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage "Protection of Cultural Heritage Abroad".
