Castle in Kamenets Podolskyi, Ukraine

The Old Castle and the New Castle in Kamieniec Podolski are part of the former Polish fortress in Kamieniec Podolski, Ukraine. Old. Old Castle was built in the 2nd half of the 14th century by princes George and Alexander Koriatovich and Spytek of Melsztyn. It was fortified after the Battle of Varna in 1444 and rebuilt in. 1544 by order of Sigismund the Old. Further work took place in the 18th century. In 2000, it was added to the World Monuments Watch list.

The new castle was built in 1618 or 1621. It was built by Teofil Szemberg, an artillery general and court engineer to Sigismund III Vasa. It was considered impregnable until 1672.
