Katyn memorial at Gunnersbury Cemetery, London

The Katyn Monument at Gunnersbury Cemetery in London was unveiled on 18 September 1976. It bears the Cross of the Order of Virtuti Militari, which was awarded to soldiers murdered in Katyn on 11 November 1976 by decree of Stanisław Ostrowski, President of the Republic of Poland in Exile in London. The monument is an over six-metre high obelisk made of black granite. The obelisk is divided into three parts. The middle part features an eagle from the Polish emblem surrounded by a wreath of barbed wire. The lowest part bears the inscription: KATYN / 1940. On the base at the front there is an inscription in Polish and English.
