Barbara Klosowicz-Krzywicka - History of the Society

We return to our Oral History series and invite you to watch an interview with Ms Barbara Klosowicz-Krzywicka.

Born in Warsaw in 1936, she moved to France in 1987, where she worked and taught at the French Polytechnic in Palaiseau near Paris.

Since the beginning of her stay in France, she has been involved in the Polish community there, working, among others, in the Association of Polish Engineers and Technicians in France and the Historical and Literary Society in Paris. As part of the latter, she is co-author of the newsletter Pamięć i Tożsamość.

She serves as president of the Society for the Care of Polish Historical Monuments and Graves in France, which protects monuments and preserves the memory of Poles of merit to their homeland. In particular, the Society undertakes conservation work on Polish historical graves in cemeteries in France and searches for tombstones in need of repair. Barbara Kłosowicz-Krzywicka has become an invaluable guide to Polish cemeteries in France.

She has used her knowledge and experience to write a book entitled "Na obcej ziemi - groby polskie na cmentarzach paryskich i w Montmorency". For her achievements she has been honoured with important distinctions, including the Pro Memoria medal and the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit.
