Monument to King Jan III Sobieski in Ostrzyhom

The monument to King John III Sobieski is located in Ostrzyhom, Hungary. Here, Jan III Sobieski fought two battles against the decimated Turkish army. The battles, known as the Battle of Parkanes, ended in victory for the Polish army. The monument consists of an over three-metre-high plinth with a medallion of King Jan III Sobieski topped with an eagle. Significantly, while the original stone eagle had deteriorated, it was replaced in 1994 by a bronze casting by János Nagy. The monument stands on the bank of the Danube, at the foot of the Ostrzyhom Basilica.
