Bust of John Paul II in Bucharest

The bust of John Paul II in Bucharest commemorates the Pope's visit to the city from 7-9 May in 1999. The bust was unveiled on 1 August 2011. It is located in the square bearing his name, near the Apostolic Nunciature in Bucharest. The author of the work is Mirsad Begić, a Slovenian sculptor of Bosnian origin. The pedestal also bears the words from St John's Gospel "Ut unum sint" (John 17:21: that they may all be one), which is also the title of one of the encyclicals promulgated by John Paul II.
