Commemoration of Francisco Mlokosiewicz in Mijas

In the Spanish town of Mijas, located in Andalusia, there is a bas-relief commemorating Franciszek Mlokosiewicz (1769-1845). He was a Polish officer from the time of Stanislaus Augustus and, what is particularly important in the context of this polonica, the Napoleonic Wars. He was famous for the defence of Fuengirola (near Mijas) in 1810, where he defeated a united
army. Spanish-British forces. The commander of these troops, Lord Blayney, surrendering to Mlokosiewicz, gave him his sabre, which is kept and exhibited in the Princes Czartoryski Museum in Kraków. The commemoration consists of a plaque in Spanish and a relief above it.
