More than 40 soldiers of the 1st Independent Anti-aircraft Artillery Squadron, formed in July 1943 in Sielce, are buried in the Kyiv-Darnitsa cemetery. On the night of 7/8 April 1944, the squadron's transport, waiting at Kyiv-Darnitsa railway station for passage to the other side of the Dnieper, was attacked by German aviation. During the defence of the transport, 49 Poles (1 officer and 48 soldiers) were killed and 68 wounded; the squadron shot down 3 Luftwaffe aircraft.

Initially, the fallen were buried in a common grave - in a deep bomb blast crater. A cross was placed on a mound made of earth and a plaque with the names of the fallen was nailed to it. In 1954, the bodies were exhumed and moved to the cemetery. Initially, the Polish graves were unnamed, Polish names appeared on the cemetery after 1971. In 1984, the cemetery section was rebuilt - currently it consists of two rows of graves, each row is fenced with a low white metal openwork fence. In the fenced grave fields stand vertical obelisks of black marble, topped with white vases. The obelisks are engraved with white inscriptions in Russian. In one of these grave fields are two horizontal slabs of black marble bearing Polish eagles and the names of the fallen soldiers. Next to it is a slab with a Virtuti Militari cross and a Soviet army insignia, and with two plaques in honour of the fallen soldiers (one plaque in Polish, the other in Russian). The inscription reads: "To the soldiers of the First Army of the Polish Army / fallen in the fight against the fascist invaders in 1944 / from Kyiv City Hall 1954".

The inscription on the bilingual plaque, next to the VM cross, reads "Eternal glory to the heroes / soldiers of the Soviet Army / and the Polish Army who / died in the years of the Great / Patriotic War 1941-1945".

The plates are engraved with 43 known names of Polish soldiers.
