Mieczysław Jałowiecki, "On the Edge of the Empire" - a publication of the Polonica Institute

Mieczyslaw Yalowiecki's memoirs On the Edge of Empire recount the author's childhood and youth. He spent it mainly in his homeland, in the territory of present-day Lithuania and Latvia.

The book's protagonist was born in the estate of Syłgudyszki in Lithuania. He was a Polish diplomat, entrepreneur, landowner, delegate of the Polish Government in Gdansk (1919-1920). His memoirs paint a remarkable picture of a colourful, multicultural and multinational Republic. This world no longer exists, but is the common heritage of contemporary Lithuania, Latvia and Poland.

The publication Na skraju Imperium (On the Edge of the Empire ) for the first time appears at once in three language versions: Polish, Lithuanian and Latvian. This is because until now there has been no such book in the countries directly connected with Mieczyslaw Yalowiecki's history and professional activities.

The new edition has been enriched with illustrative material from archival sources and private collections.
