Chapel on the "Polish road" towards the Jaun Pass

In the Charmey area, located in the heart of the cheese's homeland - in the picturesque Gruyère area - one can find traces of the presence of Polish soldiers in the form of the "Polish road", which runs towards the Jaun Pass. In 1998, a commemorative plaque with a Polish-French inscription was placed by the road. Nearby, the internees erected a wooden chapel. It originally housed a handmade statue of the Virgin Mary, remarkable for its originality. As it had deteriorated, the statue was replaced by a mass-produced statue of Our Lady of Lourdes.
